ASHLAND –
The Southern Oregon women's soccer team started and continued winning streaks on Saturday in their home opener as they defeated UC Merced 5-0 at Raider Stadium.

Heading into Saturday's game, both teams had unique winning streaks on the line. The Bobcats (1-1-1 overall) had not lost a game in regulation since 2014, when they lost to Embry Riddle (Ariz.) in the California Pacific Conference semifinals, 0-1. While the Raiders (2-0 overall) came into the game having won its last six home openers, outscoring opponents 30-1 in those games.

Lauren Aldana got the Raiders on the board first, putting in a header on a pass from Megan McArthur in the 14th minute.

Makena Totushek would then score in the 31st minute giving the Raiders a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Wanting to shift the momentum of the game, the Bobcats switched goalies. The Bobcats pulled back-to-back Cal Pac Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Morales in favor of Gabby Vinco to start the second half.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Lauren Aldana scored her second goal on the night in the 48th minute off a pass from Presley Lambert.

In the 51st minute, McArthur got on the board with her second goal of the season with a header made possible by Megan Smith's pass from midfield.

Yvonne Valencia tallied the final goal on the night, after scoring a penalty shot in the 72nd minute.

Kylie Moltzen had seven saves -- matching the most of her career in a shutout -- and brought her SOU-record shutout total to 15 1/2.

SOU extended its home opening win streak to seven games and has outscored opponents 35-1 in those games.

The Raiders are back at home on Monday when they host William Jessup. The game is scheduled to start at 7 pm.
