Stanislaus State shuts out Raiders, 4-0

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Southern Oregon University women's soccer team was blanked Sunday night for the first time this season, dropping a 4-0 decision to NCAA Division II opponent Stanislaus State (Calif.) at Warrior Stadium.

Stanislaus State (5-0 overall) – the alma mater of SOU head coach Jenni Rosenberg and assistant Lauren Thornton – needed less than four minutes to record the decisive score, as Gabby Squarcia's free kick hit the cross bar and Maryssa McDuffy was there to knock it in.

Kirsten Coleman made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute when she converted a penalty kick. The Warriors tacked on second-half goals from Kinsey Pettigrew (unassisted) and Gabriela Vargas (assisted by Bella Rivera and Mayah Chambers).

The Raiders (3-2 overall) were outshot 21-10. Warriors keeper Haley Crook Haley Crook made four saves for the shutout.

Before starting Cascade Conference play at home on Sept. 23 against Corban, the Raiders will play head to Portland to play two more NCAA Div. II opponents next week – Friday against Saint Martin's (Wash.) and Saturday against Concordia (Ore.).
