4 p.m. Saturday – Southern Oregon (2-2) at Multnomah (2-2)

ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon men's soccer team will pack some momentum as it hits the road this weekend to open Cascade Conference play, Friday at Walla Walla (Wash.) and Saturday at Multnomah.

The Raiders (2-1) were named the Cascade Conference Team of the Week after defeating a pair of NCAA Division III foes – George Fox, 2-0, and Linfield, 4-0 – at Raider Stadium, giving them consecutive victories for the first time since last Sept. 18-19 against Walla Walla and Multnomah.

Briefly:
  • SOU has outscored its opponents 8-3 and every goal has been assisted.
  • Daniel Zamores tallied the first two scores against Linfield, making him the first Raiders to record multiple goals in the same game since last Sept. 18.
  • Aside from Zamores, six other Raiders have one goal apiece. Sean McManamon and Mitchell Pinney, who are among those six, lead the team with two assists each.
  • The Raider defense was solid all week, as keeper Jonathan Morales only needed to make four saves combined in the two shutouts.
  • SOU went 5-8 in CCC play in 2015 – finishing one game out of the eighth and final playoff spot – and was picked to finish eighth this year.

About Walla Walla:
  • In SOU's first meeting with Walla Walla last year, the Raiders won 5-1 at home for the program's first-ever conference victory. Ahmon Afenegus assisted Johnnie Workman to make history with the first goal just over six minutes into the contest.
  • The Wolves are coached by William Burns in his first season. They did not play a nonleague game, making Friday's game the first on their schedule.
  • They went 0-15 last season and were outscored 73-6. This year, they've been picked to finish last in the conference.
  • The Wolves won two games in 2014, the program's first year of existence. Both were against Multnomah.

About Multnomah:
  • SOU defeated the Lions 6-0 last year at Raider Stadium in the teams' first meeting.
  • Tom Stephens begins his third season as head coach. With a 2-2 record this year, he's already doubled his win total from the last two seasons combined.
  • The Lions' lone victory last year, and their first as a member of the NAIA, was a 1-0 decision against Walla Walla.
  • They've outscored opponents 5-4, defeating King's University (Texas), 2-0, and Sierra Nevada, 2-1. They've also played Simpson (Calif.) and Whitman (Wash.) tough, dropping 2-1 decisions to both teams.
  • Fischer Rogers leads the team with two goals, and keeper Manny Guillermo has made 22 saves.
