ASHLAND
– The Southern Oregon men's soccer team kept rolling last week while taking advantage of two teams expected to land in the cellar of the Cascade Conference standings. Now it's time to find out if the Raiders are for real.

SOU (4-1 overall, 2-0 CCC) will start its home CCC slate with a bang at 1 p.m. Friday as the 11th-ranked and unbeaten Corban Warriors (7-0, 2-0) visit Raider Stadium. At 2 p.m. Saturday, a much-improved Northwest Christian Beacons (5-2, 1-1) squad will be in the house.

The Raiders have looked sharp while ticking off four straight shutouts, going the last 364 game minutes without allowing a goal and scoring 20 of their own during that time. Those opponents, though, are a combined 2-17-1, and Corban is a CCC frontrunner with eight returning starters (including two NAIA All-Americans) from a team that went 11-2 in the circuit last year. One of those wins was a 1-0 decision in Salem against SOU, in which the Raiders put forth one of their most impressive efforts of the season and took a couple shots at a tie in the closing moments.

Briefly:
Dakota Scott was voted the CCC's offensive player of the week after recording the first hat trick in team history with all three of his goals in the first half of Friday's 11-0 win at Walla Walla. In the second half, Carlos Magana scored all three of his goals for another hat trick. Scott tallied again in Saturday's 3-0 win at Multnomah and leads the Raiders with five goals on the season.
– Nine different Raiders have scored and nine have assisted, too. The team leaders in assists are Sean McManamon (4) and Roberto Lupera (3).
– With a wide array of weapons at his disposal, head coach Biniam Afenegus is still toying with different combinations and has awarded 19 different players starts thus far.
– Thanks to a strong defense and SOU's dominance in possession, keeper Jonathan Morales has only needed to make nine combined saves in the Raiders' four shutouts.
Ahmon Afenegus assisted in both of SOU's conference wins last week. Last year he registered a team-high three assists in CCC play.
– SOU is 5-3 at Raider Stadium over the last two seasons.

About Corban:
– The Warriors were ranked 21st in the NAIA preseason poll but have jumped 11 spots thanks to a start in which they've outscored opponents 16-5.
– Last week they started CCC play with a 2-1 win against Great Falls and a 2-0 win against Carroll.
– They advanced to the NAIA national tournament in 2015, losing an opening-round matchup with Biola (Calif.), 1-0.
– They're 4-0 on the road this year.
– Quamie Dinnall is the reigning CCC player of the year after recording nine goals and 19 assists in 2015. He has two of each this year.
– Timur Zhividze leads all CCC players with seven goals and five assists, including three game-winners.
– Keeper Jordan Farr was the 2015 CCC defensive player of the year.

About Northwest Christian:
– The Beacons are led on the attack by Raul Segoviano (4 goals, 1 assist) and Angel Sandoval (4 goals, 1 assists). They've outscored opponents 15-8.
– They opened CCC play with a 2-1 loss to Carroll and a 1-0 win against Great Falls in which Alex Abalan assisted Sandoval in the 12th minute for the lone goal.
– SOU won the teams' first meeting last year in Eugene, 2-0. The Raiders went up in the 61st minute and Paul Matyas scored SOU's second goal in the 70th.
– The Beacons went 2-11 in CCC play last season, winning their only games at home against Multnomah and Walla Walla.
