Raiders down Beacons, cap perfect CCC-opening weekend

ASHLAND
– The Southern Oregon women's soccer team is off to its first 2-0 start in the Cascade Conference since 2000, its inaugural season, after Saturday evening's 2-0 win against Northwest Christian at Raider Stadium.

The Raiders (5-3-1 overall, 2-0 CCC) went ahead for good on Megan McArthur's sixth goal of the season in the 14th minute. Presley Lambert kicked the ball out of a scrum near midfield and McArthur released, dribbling left of the goal and shooting with her left foot from eight yards past the keeper.

In the 54th minute, Lisa Elledge set up Makena Totushek with a lead pass and Totushek beat one defender for a one-on-one chance with the keeper and a 10-yard strike to score her second goal of the season.

The Raiders have outscored their five NAIA opponents 18-1 this season and outscored opponents 15-0 at home.

With the loss, the Beacons fall to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the CCC, while extending their winless streak against the Raiders to 0-9-1 all-time.

The Beacons have failed to score a goal in their last four trips to Raider Stadium, going 0-3-1 overall. They last scored a goal in Ashland on Sept. 12, 2007.

Kylie Moltzen recorded her fifth shutout of the season, stopping the Beacons five times and matching her shutout total of 2015.

SOU plays its next two on the road, traveling to Warner Pacific on Friday and Eastern Oregon on Saturday. Following their two-game road trip, the Raiders play three straight in Ashland.
