ATHERTON, Calif. – A flurry of pins allowed Southern Oregon to turn the tables on sixth-ranked Menlo (Calif.) and snatch a 27-18 upset victory in a fiery West Group dual Wednesday night at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

Tyler Cowger (149 pounds), Chandler Michael (157), Hunter Hodges (165) and Tanner Fischer (197) each won in first-round falls for the ninth-ranked Raiders, and Andrew Orr (174) came back to take a one-point decision for their only other win. Before Cowger started the rally, SOU had been outscored 10-0 on the night and 44-11 on the season by the Oaks.

The Raiders went to 7-7 in dual action – and avenged their November loss to the Oaks in Ashland – going into Friday's matchup at Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).

Three nationally-ranked Oaks started the night with wins, but SOU kept their bonus points to a minimum: No. 5 Troy Lakin (125) won by major decision against Ian Rogers, and No. 10 Blaysen Terukina (133) and No. 3 Steele Escobedo (141) were limited to decisions by Casey Coulter and Justin Acuff.

Cowger, still ranked second at 149 pounds, put the Raiders on the comeback trail by putting Rogelio Bravo on his back in 2:47. Just 1:15 later, Michael gave them a lead with his pin of James Luscombe, and the third-ranked Hodges finished off Erik Stockwell in 1:39.

Orr punctuated the 21-point rally and put SOU firmly in command by defeating Isaac Rangel, 2-1. Trailing 1-0 with under a minute left, Orr's decisive score was a two-point reversal.

After Menlo's ninth-ranked Tyler Noon worked an 18-0 technical fall that took one round against Oscar Flores, Fischer, also ranked ninth, clinched the win by pinning Brady Rivera in 2:14. Javier Gonzalez, Menlo's ninth-ranked heavyweight, wrapped up the dual with an 8-4 win over Alejandro Sandoval.

The Raiders have won in their last eight trips to Menlo. They've won three straight duals overall, and have three remaining in their hunt for a 47th consecutive winning season.
