SOU eases past Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Southern Oregon positioned itself to make a move up the standings with another easy win Friday night, defeating Evergreen State 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 at Costantino Recreation Center.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Raiders (15-7 overall, 12-5 Cascade Conference), their longest streak in two years. After needing five sets to finish off the Geoducks (8-17, 5-12) in the teams' first meeting, SOU's .346 attack (compared to .187 the first time around) made for a straighter path.

Sophomore right-side hitter Taylor Ristvedt was the catalyst with 15 kills on 27 swings and a .481 hitting clip. She was in on three of SOU's six blocks, as was Makayla Hoyt, who delivered nine kills on 13 swings without an error. Elliott Cook pitched in eight kills and Dani Johnson had seven.

The Raiders have hit .228 or better in all six matches during their streak, another feat they hadn't accomplished since 2015. They've also won 18 of their last 19 sets.

Natalie James directed the offense with 25 assists and Hannah Bogatin had 12. In the digs category, Ashlyn Flynn had a match-high 15 and Kiley Barcroft went for seven.

SOU plays Saturday at Northwest (Wash.), with which it is tied in fourth place. The Eagles took the first matchup in straight sets.

The Geoducks – who trailed by as many as six points in the first set, eight in the second and 10 in the third – were led by Chloee Hunt's 12 kills and Bethanie Nelson's 12.
