11/4/2017 10:50:00 PM

COOS BAY – Southwestern Oregon Community College ended the night with three straight pins to overtake Southern Oregon for a 24-20 victory in women's wrestling dual action on Saturday night.

The Raiders – ranked No. 9 in the Women's College Wrestling Association preseason poll – were making their 2017-18 debut against the Lakers.

After dropping the first three matches by decision, they stormed out to a 20-9 lead with four consecutive bonus-point victories. Junior transfer Nevina DeLuna started the rally with a pin of Ayza Abbas at 123 pounds, and three Raider returners kept it going as Anesia Ramirez got Kaycee Holmgren by technical fall at 130, Alejandra Rodriguez pinned Olivia Demars at 136 and Sienna Ramirez finished off Makayla Fine in a 12-0 technical fall at 143.

SOU's scoring stopped there, however, as Taj Vierra (155), Ivory Ayers (170) and Ebony Ayers (191) won by fall consecutively.

Next week, SOU will hold the Red & Black Intrasquad dual Wednesday at Ashland Middle School and hosts Menlo (Calif.) Friday at Phoenix High. Both events start at 6 p.m.

A team preview will be published beforehand.
