Spring Preview Notes

ASHLAND – For the first time Friday, fans will begin to get answers to the question of what the Southern Oregon University football team will look like under new head coach Charlie Hall.

SOU's annual Red & White Spring Game, the culmination of four weeks of spring practice, is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Raider Stadium. The 80 players in camp will be split into two teams, playing four 12-minute quarters with a running clock. Admission is free for all.

Prior to the game, the Raider Red Zone tailgate will start at 3 p.m. in the area behind the scoreboard at the north end of the stadium. A moment of silence for former coach Craig Howard will be observed prior to the national anthem.

Following the game, fans, parents and alums ages 21 and over are encouraged to join members of the coaching staff at Oak Tree Northwest Bar and Grill, owned by SOU alum Gary Allen. Oak Tree is also the title sponsor of the eighth annual and sold-out Raider Red Zone Football Alumni Golf Shootout, which is slated for an 8 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at the Eagle Point Golf Club. Check-in begins at 6:15 a.m.

The Raiders have 59 players back from last year's team that went 5-5 in the Frontier Conference, including eight starters on defense and seven on offense. They've also mixed in several transfers who arrived on campus after the season, holding scrimmages at the end of each week of practice.

As usual, both teams will have honorary coaches: Todd Beck, an engineer with Ashland Fire & Rescue, will join the Red team, and Bon Stewart, a detective with the Ashland Police Department, will join the White team.
