PORTLAND – Southern Oregon cashed in four pins to collect its fourth straight road win Thursday, 37-12 over Warner Pacific in a Cascade Collegiate Conference dual at Bart Valentine Court.
Devin Poppen (141 pounds), Chandler Michael (149) and Hunter Hodges (157) won by fall consecutively and Tanner Fischer ended the night win another pin in the heavyweight match. The 13th-ranked Raiders improved to 5-2 going into Saturday's Bronco Duals in Hastings, Neb.
Josh Johnson, the eighth-ranked 125-pounder in the NAIA, put the Knights (0-9) on the board first with an 11-4 defeat of Trey Long, but Matt Peterson's 21-11 major decision over Lucas Higginbotham started a run of 22 unanswered points for SOU.
Poppen, ranked fourth at 141, finished off Zachery Sias in 2:07 in bringing his record to 16-4 overall and 6-1 in dual matches. Michael, ranked 10th, followed with his seventh pin of the season in 6:29 against Baylen Cooper, going to 15-5 on the season. Hodges hadn't appeared in a dual since the Raiders' Nov. 10 opener against Menlo, but the sixth-ranked 157-pounder needed just 2:23 to pin Timothy Rivera.
Max Hane picked up a 6-4 win over Joe Dickinson at 184 for SOU, and Fischer went to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in duals after taking care of Alvaro Venegas nine seconds into the second round. The Raiders also scored at 197, where Alejandro Sandoval won by forfeit.
The Knights got points at 165 and 174, as third-ranked Blake Cooper got Micah Arakawa by 12-2 major decision and Matthew Aguigui won by 19-1 technical fall over Cody Stahl.
The Raiders have won five straight duals against CCC opponents. At the Bronco Duals, hosted by Hastings College, they'll face Northwestern (Iowa), Doane (Neb.), York (Neb.) and Wayland Baptist (Texas).
