Bench helps SOU run up 96-67 win against Northwest

ASHLAND – A worn-down Northwest (Wash.) squad couldn't keep up with 10th-ranked Southern Oregon on Sunday, and the Raiders pulled away for their 11th consecutive win, 96-67, in Cascade Conference play at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Remi Mejia shined again with 19 points, nine assists and three steals, but SOU's bench did a majority of the damage with a season-high 49 points. The Raiders (18-1 overall, 10-1 CCC) had a 57-47 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter before turning up a gear and finished with 30 fast-break points to Northwest's zero.

Along with the easy transition buckets, the Raiders worked inside at will in the half-court and had a 56-10 advantage on points in the paint. They shot 67 percent inside the 3-point arc (31-of-46) and 8-of-34 outside of it.

Ariel Augustine was the only other Raider in double figures, scoring 14 with three steals, but seven others scored six or more – Sophia Altemus (9), Syd'Nee Fryer (8), Daranda Hinkey (8), Destinee Jones (8), Delaney Sparling (8), Grace Corbin (6) and Bryanna Raff (6) – and all 12 players in uniform made at least one bucket.

Altemus also had a career-high 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. The Raiders totaled 23 offensive boards; every player also recorded one of those.

After their lead was cut to 10 in the third, a couple of Augustine jumpers sparked a 13-1 spurt to pull away. The Eagles (6-14, 3-8) went nearly six minutes without a basket during the quarter.

Andie Kristinat, who went 6-of-12 from 3, scored 19 points for the Egales. Miranda Langenhorst had 14 points and nine rebounds, Kalee Fowler added 14 more, and Mariah Stacona totaled 13 points and five assists.

The win was SOU's 13th in a row against Northwest.
