LA GRANDE – Max Hane's pin of Justin Wilson 12 seconds into the heavyweight match clinched Southern Oregon's 28-17 win over Eastern Oregon in the "Wagontire" rivalry matchup Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.

SOU (2-1 overall) trailed 18-12 after EOU 174-pounder Drake Randall pinned Elijah Epling, but the Raiders came back with bonus points in the last three weight classes. C.J. McKinnis scored a 9-1 major decision over Marco Retano at 184, Tanner Fischer won by forfeit at 197 pounds and Hane finished the deal with his third consecutive pin in dual action.

EOU (1-4) was also docked a point for unsportsmanlike conduct, accounting for the final score.

Three others helped the Raiders keep pace early with early wins: 18^th-ranked Devin Poppen, 13-7 against Ryan Ninman at 133 pounds; third-ranked 149-pounder Chandler Michael, who won by fall in the second round against Kurtis Loftus; and 157-pounder JJ Talavera, a 6-4 winner over Keegan Mulhill.

Michael stayed perfect in dual matches this season.

SOU has won all five matchups with EOU since the Mountaineers revived their program in 2016.

Earlier in the day, the Raiders defeated Umpqua Community College in an exhibition, 35-14. The wins counted toward individual but not team records.

Poppen, Talavera, McKinnis and Fischer each won by fall against the Riverhawks. Cody Stahl (165) picked up a technical fall, while Zac Wigzell (141) and Epling (174) took decisions.

The Raiders will compete Sunday at the Spokane Open and have their next dual Dec. 15 against San Francisco State in Ashland.
