PORTLAND – Justin Martin, the NAIA's top scorer, poured in 32 of his 40 points in the second half and helped Multnomah charge back for a 96-83 win against No. 13 Southern Oregon on Sunday night at Jim Skagen Court.
Martin – who scored 42 a night earlier, and previously broke the national record with a 71 in a game – was held to 3-of-11 shooting and one 3-pointer in the first half as the Raiders (13-4, 3-3 Cascade Conference) used a 19-0 run to take a 51-38 lead into the break.
In the second, however, he shot 10-of-18 with six 3-pointers, most of which were taken from NBA range. He was joined behind the 3-point line by Ben Grandle, who hit half of his 14 attempts from deep to score 23. As a team, the Lions shot 11-of-21 from 3 in the second half.
With the Lions (10-5, 3-2) down 77-76, Martin gave them the lead for good by stepping into his second straight 25-footer with six minutes left. It was part of a stretch in which he scored 14 of MU's 16 points.
Tristen Holmes recorded 26 points, seven assists and four rebounds to lead the Raiders for the fifth time in six conference games.
Jordan Hunt had 22 points and 12 rebounds, scoring 15 in the first half.
SOU made fewer field goals than the Lions did 3-pointers in the second half, going 10-of-32.
They'll be off until they host Oregon Tech on Jan. 8.
