Raiders can't solve #4 College of Idaho's 'D'

CALDWELL, Idaho – The fourth-ranked College of Idaho avenged its only Cascade Conference loss by slowing down Southern Oregon in a 66-50 win Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Center, its 17th straight in CCC play.

The Raiders' season-low offensive output was the product of 36-percent shooting against a lengthy matchup-zone defense that the Yotes have used to rank second in the NAIA in points allowed. Ben DeSaulnier's jumper inside trimmed C of I's lead to eight points with four minutes to play, but SOU went scoreless the rest of the way.

The Raiders (19-10 overall, 13-6 CCC) can still land anywhere from the No. 2 to 5 seed in the conference tournament with one regular-season game to go, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at No. 21 Eastern Oregon.

The Yotes (24-5, 18-1), who clinched the title last week, remained perfect at in conference home games and have won their last eight by double figures. Senior forward Aziz Leeks controlled the paint defensively and finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds, and forward Nate Bruneel had 18 points and three steals.

Tate Hoffman's 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and six rebounds paced SOU, but he was the only Raider to shoot over 50 percent from the field. The first time around against the Yotes, in a 100-93 win, SOU hit at a 57-percent clip.
