Southern Oregon shrugs off Yotes, keeps road record perfect

CALDWELL, Idaho – Southern Oregon shrugged off some early sloppiness and pulled away from The College of Idaho, 70-62, to stay perfect on the road Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Center.

The Raiders (25-2 overall, 17-2 Cascade Conference) committed nine first-quarter turnovers and trailed 16-3 just five minutes into the game before getting cleaned up, using Remi Mejia's 17 points and Toria Bradford's 15 to win their fifth straight overall and 13th straight on the road.

Mejia's 3-pointer with four minutes left in the third put the Raiders up for good, 46-43. They retained the three-point edge heading into the fourth, which Bradford started with back-to-back uncontested fast-break layups off of steals. The Yotes (10-15, 10-9) went on to turn the ball over six more times in the period, and Ariel Augustine wielded the dagger with a 3-pointer after Bradford's steal to make it 67-58 with a minute left.

Bradford and Kenadee Honaker both collected five steals, and Bradford also had five assists. Augustine and Mejia both hit 3-of-6 3-pointers, and Augustine's led to 13 points. Syd'Nee Fryer chipped in eight and five rebounds off the bench, going 4-of-5 to help SOU shoot 47 percent (29-of-62).

The Raiders are locked into the No. 2 seed in the CCC tournament going into Saturday's regular-season finale at sixth-ranked Eastern Oregon, which remained undefeated and clinched the outright title by defeating Oregon Tech. The Mountaineers and Raiders will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

Jocelyn Cook-Cox's 17 points led the Yotes, whose winning streak was snapped at six games. They've now lost 12 straight against SOU.
