KLAMATH FALLS – Southern Oregon couldn't produce enough offense to close a manageable second-half gap against 12th-ranked Oregon Tech, falling 70-61 on Tuesday at Danny Miles Court.
OIT guard Seth Erickson scored all 15 of his points after halftime, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range to lift the Owls (21-5 overall, 12-2 Cascade Conference) on a night when Mitchell Fink and Tyler Hieb – who totaled 41 in their first matchup with the Raiders (17-8, 7-7) – combined to go 4-of-15 from the field.
Tristen Holmes paced SOU with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. His floater with 4:39 left cut the Owls' lead to 56-52 before they went on an 8-1 run capped by Erickson's dagger 3-pointer.
The teams were changed leads eight times and were tied at seven points.
Tate Hoffman's bucket knotted the score at 30-30 in the opening minute of the second half, but back-to-back Erickson triples made it 40-33 three minutes later.
SOU's
Jordan Hunt went for 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks, and Hoffman recorded 10 points and seven boards. As a team, however, the Raiders shot a lowly 34 percent from the field (21-of-61) and were marred by an 11-of-19 showing at the free-throw line in the second half.
Three Owls joined Erickson in double figures: Garret Albrecht (12 points), Cal Stueve (12) and Harrison Steiger (10). Led by Steiger and Stueve, they amassed a 31-14 advantage in bench scoring.
The result ended a four-game winning streak for SOU, which won't play again until Feb. 8 and 9 at Corban and Northwest Christian.
The Owls went two games up over College of Idaho (10-2 CCC) in the win column for first place.
