OLYMPIA, Wash. – After escaping first-set trouble, the 10th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team found its footing and swept out of Evergreen (Wash.) with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 win on Friday night at the Costantino Recreation Center.
Taylor Ristvedt's 13 kills and
Makayla Hoyt's nine were recorded on a combined 38 attacks to guide the Raiders as they improved to 16-3 overall and 7-2 in the Cascade Conference. In their 32nd consecutive head-to-head win against the Geoducks (16-3, 7-2), they also got seven kills from both
Elliott Cook and
Maddie Pernich on 15 swings apiece.
Evergreen had control early and opened a 21-16 lead. SOU neutralized the threat with a 7-1 run sparked by service aces from
Sara Fanger and
Emma Ryan, and three Pernich kills helped put the set away.
Another SOU surge was the difference in the second. The Raiders were down 9-8 before rattling off eight of the next 10 points, four of which they got by setting Cook. Up 24-22, they went to Ristvedt for the win and never gave up momentum, trailing only at 1-0 in the third.
Hannah Bogatin distributed 18 assists and
Tehani Faitau had 17 in a .303 attack for the Raiders. Cook also chipped in a team-high three blocks, while Ryan and Fanger were the digs leaders with 12 and nine.
Evergreen middle Chloee Hunt matched Ristvedt's line – both had 13 kills on a .476 average – and Zoe Shaw had nine kills. As a team, the Geoducks hit .191 and were haunted by eight service errors.
SOU is 2-1 in CCC road matches going into their final first-half matchup on Saturday at Northwest (Wash.), which is set for a 7 p.m. start.
The sweep was the Raiders' eighth of the season. The attacking average was their best in six matches.
Ristvedt has now recorded 13 kills or more in six straight, matching the longest such stretch of her career.
