PORTLAND – The Southern Oregon University men's wrestling team finished the dual portion of its schedule with five wins by fall in a 51-3 defeat of Warner Pacific on Tuesday night at C.C. Perry Gym.
Pancho Barrera (125 pounds),
Justin Coon (133) and
Devin Poppen (141) opened the match with consecutive pins, and
Chandler Michael (157) and
Hunter Hodges (165) later delivered two more.
Cody Stahl (174) added a win by decision and the Knights forfeited the final three weight classes.
The Raiders ended with a 6-8 dual record and split the season series with WPU. Coon was the only winner by fall in the lineup for the first matchup.
Barrera, ranked fifth in the NAIA 125-pound class, bounced back from a pair of losses to ranked opponents last week to pin Kaleo Gambala in 3:43. Coon finished Louis Palos with 25 seconds left in the first round, and Poppen needed 32 seconds to make Aaron Vang his 14th fall victim of the season and the 69th of his career.
Michael improved to 14-5 with his 10th pin, in 5:17 against Chas Peterson, and Hodges got Mark Meier on his back within a minute. Stahl's decision went 6-1 over Jonathan Moskowitz.
SOU will be off until the Cascade Conference Championships, hosted on Feb. 15 and 16 by Providence (Mont.) in Great Falls, Montana.
