Ristvedt leads Raiders to split of Raider Invite finales

ASHLAND – A second five-set comeback in as many days extended Southern Oregon's winning streak to five on Saturday, but 20th-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) claimed the matchup of Raider Invitational unbeaten in four sets against the No. 6 Raiders at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

SOU fought off Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) 24-26, 28-26, 24-26, 27-25, 15-12 during the afternoon session before falling against the Jimmies in the tournament finale by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-18.

Senior right-side hitter Taylor Ristvedt was overpowering with match-high kill totals in both matches, going for 24 in the win and 18 in the loss on a combined attacking average of .467.

The Raiders went to 5-1 heading into their final non-conference tune-ups next weekend at the William Jessup Invitational in Rocklin, Calif.

Facing a 2-1 sets deficit against LC State and down 23-19 in the fourth, they stole eight of the final 10 points as blocks by Ristvedt, Elliott Cook and Makayla Hoyt helped them extend the match to a tiebreaker. There, Ristvedt accounted for three of the final four points on kills.

Hoyt recorded nine kills and seven total blocks while Cook went for nine and five. Tehani Faitau directed the .220 attack with 34 assists and Kadyn Jones had 18.

Jamestown hit .266 against the Raiders with Ellie Michaletz (13 kills), Isabel Wedell (12) and Britta Knutson (10) leading the way, and their 17 attacking errors were 12 fewer than SOU's total.

Alongside Ristvedt, Nila Lukens had 15 kills, Cook had 12, and Hoyt seven on 15 swings. Emma Ryan's 28 digs were a match-high and Kya Knuth added 11.
