Embry-Riddle sends SOU home with 3-1 setback

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – After a lightning storm delayed the start by more than two hours, Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) didn't take long to establish itself in a 3-1 win against No. 13 Southern Oregon that ended after midnight on Saturday at Varsity Field.

Eagles senior Mason Laaksonen scored in the 24th and 28th minutes for the Eagles, who improved to 2-1-2. The first was assisted by Simon Jensen and Chiedu Ikeme, and the second fell to him at the top of the box before he slid it into the bottom left corner.

Austyn Ciampa got the Raiders on the board in the 72nd minute before Pedro Mena put them away in the 81st, taking advantage of an errant clearance.

All-star Raider keeper Wyatt Zabinski exited the game when it was scoreless in the 18th minute.

The game featured 10 yellow cards and one red. The Raiders had been playing a man down for less than a minute when the final goal was tallied.

SOU finished the non-conference slate with a 2-3 record and will open play in the Cascade on Sept. 21 at Oregon Tech.
