Raiders take shootout at Warner Pac, 100-92

PORTLAND – After sitting on one of its worst shooting performances in years during a 12-day holiday layoff, 18th-ranked Southern Oregon went the prudent route and got red-hot in Friday's 100-92 win at Warner Pacific.

Bart Valentine Court has held the cure for the Raiders' woes in recent history, and that was the case again as they shot 11-of-18 from 3 in the first half on the way to their ninth consecutive Cascade Conference win against the Knights.

After Aaron Borich's 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half staked the Raiders (9-4, 3-2 CC) to a 59-43 lead, they ended at 44 percent from deep (15-of-34) and shot 21-of-22 from the free-throw line.

Borich, a senior guard, established a new career-high for the second time in three games with 25 points. He shot 5-of-10 from downtown, added five rebounds and four assists, and after the Knights cut an 18-point deficit down to 84-76 with five minutes left he dribbled into his final triple to help hold them off.

WPU dropped to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the CCC despite KJ Bosco's 35 points and eight rebounds. Bosco, a senior transfer from Western Washington appearing in his third game for the Knights, scored 13 in the first five minutes to push them out to a 22-7 lead.

That's when the Raiders got going behind Borich and Tate Hoffman, who recorded 17 of his 23 points in the first half by making all six of his attempts from the field. Hoffman finished 8-of-11 overall and 4-of-5 from 3 with six rebounds, eclipsing the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season.

Tez Allen added his second double-double in CCC action with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Conor Carroll registered 10 points, six assists and five rebounds, Jordan Hunt scored 12 points off the bench after missing SOU's previous three games due to injury, and Jake Virga added eight.

Without Hunt in their most recent outing against College of Idaho, the Raiders shot an abysmal 29 percent from the field – their worst mark in six seasons – and hit just seven 3-pointers. Their 3-point total against the Knights matched their highest since last January, and they connected on 47 percent of their attempts overall.

Kerry Cook's 3 with five minutes left in the first half made their run 30-7 and their lead 41-31. Their biggest advantage was 82-64 after a Hoffman three-point play with 10 minutes to go.

The Raiders will play again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Multnomah (7-5), which dropped to 0-3 in conference play with Friday's loss to Oregon Tech.
