Bench comes up big as Raiders cruise past Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Depth was the difference in Southern Oregon's 80-54 win Thursday night at Walla Walla (Wash.), where the Raiders scored 42 bench points and held the Wolves without any on Windemuth Court.

Daranda Hinkey hit four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 14 points in the Raiders' fourth consecutive victory, which made them 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the Cascade Conference with another tilt at WWU (2-14, 0-7) on tap for noon Friday.

Among the ultra-productive bench corps, Kalei Iwami led the way with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting with a pair of triples. Reserves Danasia Allison, Annika Riddell and Delaney Sparling all chipped in eight points, and Allison led SOU with a career-high nine rebounds.

Sophomore Bryanna Raff added another stellar outing in the frontcourt, scoring in double figures for the fourth time in five games with 10 points and eight rebounds.

With SOU leading 25-20, Raff's put-back layup on the Raiders' final possession of the first quarter was the starting point of what became a 17-2 run that stretched through the first four minutes of the second.

Walla Walla's Jacqueline Saucedo recorded 19 points and Jaliyah Casem had 14, but the pair also combined for 17 of the Wolves' 22 turnovers. SOU turned those into 25 points.

The Raiders also had a 22-6 advantage on the offensive glass, which along with the turnovers translated to 25 more field goal attempts than WWU produced. They shot 47 percent (35-of-75), their third-best clip of the season.

Each of SOU's top-three field-goal percentages have been turned in over the team's last four games.

Hinkey has now knocked down multiple 3-pointers in five straight, shooting 15-of-25 from deep over that stretch.
