Box Score 3 LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – After beating up on San Diego Christian and before doing the same to Menlo (Calif.), Southern Oregon was down to its last out when it staged a three-run rally to defeat Arizona Christian 4-2 on Saturday at the TCS NAIA SoCal Classic.
The No. 1-ranked Raiders finished the tournament with a 5-1 mark – they topped San Diego Christian 8-0 in five innings and wrapped with a 12-9 defeat of Menlo – and went to 10-2 overall. Statistics were not provided by the tournament host but will be posted Sunday.
GAME 1 – SOU 8, SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN 0: Lauren Quirke kept SDCC winless with a five-hit shutout and
Katrina Winterburn triggered the eight-run rule with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, the first of the junior's career.
Quirke struck out five with one walk while improving to 2-1 in the circle. She also went 2-for-3 and hit an RBI double in the first inning, but the Raiders opened up the lead with three in the fourth on an
Avery Morehead-Hutsell RBI triple and
Tayler Walker's run-scoring double.
Paige Leeper went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and
Allie Stines added a run and two hits.
GAME 2 – SOU 4, ARIZONA CHRISTIAN 2: The Raiders trailed 2-1 going into the top of the seventh and were down to their final out after back-to-back groundouts to start the frame.
Abbie Lewis and
Hannah Shimek kept the game alive with consecutive singles, and Stines put SOU in front with a two-run double. Quirke then padded the lead with a double of her own.
Gabby Sandoval finished off the complete-game victory to improve to 5-0, working around five hits and five walks with five strikeouts. Shimek and
Mackenzie Evangelisti had two hits apiece.
GAME 3 – SOU 12, MENLO 9: The Raiders slashed 18 hits and took a 9-2 lead through four innings as the top half of their order produced again. Lewis and Shimek had two hits and scored three runs each, Quirke went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Sintes went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Paige Leeper,
Kristen Mauroschadt and Morehead-Hutsell each contributed three hits to the cause. Jordy Ragan worked 4 2/3 innings to earn the decision.
