Raiders finish with 12-2 run to steal win at Corban

SALEM – In lieu of a smooth offensive production, the Southern Oregon women's basketball team had to lean on defensive toughness to grind out a momentous 56-52 win over Corban on Saturday night at the C.E. Jeffers Center.

Despite shooting 33 percent, SOU stunned the Warriors with a game-ending 12-2 run – avenging a 21-point loss to them at home on Jan. 17 and Friday night's dispiriting setback at Northwest Christian in one fell swoop, while taking over sole possession of third place. The Raiders' record jumped to 16-8 overall and 12-5 in the Cascade Conference, putting them one game in the loss column in front of Corban (14-9, 10-5) and Oregon Tech (15-10, 9-6) going into Tuesday's game at OIT.

They trailed 50-44 after Corban's Jordan Woodvine scored on a put-back with 5:19 to go, but held the Warriors to 1-of-6 shooting with three turnovers on their final eight offensive trips.

SOU guard Dominique Harding assisted buckets inside by Izzy Hernandez and Bryanna Raff to get the Raiders within two, and Syd'Nee Fryer tied the score on a second-chance basket with 3:29 to play.

After three defensive stops, Kalei Iwami's free throw put the Raiders ahead 51-50 with 2:06 left. Another stop later, Fryer made it 53-50 at the 1:06 mark. Woodvine answered with Corban's first hoop in nearly five minutes to make it a one-point game before Danasia Allison answered for the Raiders on the other end.

Shawnie Spink's 3-pointer for the tie rimmed off with nine seconds left and Fryer cleaned up the rebound. She finished with nine points and 12 boards.

Delaney Sparling scored a team-high 12 points for SOU, hitting three of her four 3-pointers in the first half to send the Raiders into halftime down 33-28. Allison contributed seven points off the bench, Daranda Hinkey scored six, and Harding totaled six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Woodvine scored 18 for the Warriors, who had won their last three matchups with SOU.
