LA GRANDE – Southern Oregon kept pace with the rest of the Cascade Conference men's soccer title contenders by completing a perfect weekend on the road Saturday, defeating Eastern Oregon 1-0 at Community Stadium.
The Mountaineers were content to sit back against the Raiders' attack and got what they deserved with zero shots on goal.
Alan Gaytan made them pay in the 11th minute with his team-leading eighth goal of the season, taking a pass from
Moises Hernandez, who recorded his third point of the weekend with the assist.
The Raiders (12-2 overall, 8-2 CCC) hadn't held a team without a shot on goal since 2019. They'd only done it six previous times in team history.
The shutout was SOU's second in a row and fifth of the season.
The Mountaineers went to 4-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play. They've never defeated SOU in seven head-to-head matchups and have been blanked in six of those.
The Raiders remained tied with Corban and three points behind first-place Oregon Tech in the standings with three games left to play. Warner Pacific is two points behind the Raiders but has four remaining games.
SOU will face Corban next, in its final home game of the season on Oct. 24.
