PORTLAND – Warner Pacific denied Southern Oregon's Cascade Conference title bid by taking a 4-0 decision Friday afternoon at the Eastside Timbers Sports Complex.
The Raiders (13-3 overall, 9-3 CCC) – who entered the day three points behind the first-place Knights (15-2, 11-1) and Oregon Tech – will have the No. 3 seed when the CCC Tournament begins on Nov. 9 in Springfield no matter the outcome of Saturday's regular-season finale at Multnomah. WPU and Oregon Tech will match up Saturday for the championship.
The Knights took advantage of a thin SOU back line that lost standout sophomore
Moises Hernandez to a season-ending injury last week. They took the lead in the 29th minute when Matias Castano headed in a free ball, and went up 2-0 three minutes before halftime on Sunjoon Tenorio's goal assisted by Arturo Bahena.
Castano assisted Hunter VanCleave in the 58th. Bahena, the CCC's goals leader, added his 15th in the 68th minute.
Izaiha Bruce recorded SOU's only on-target shot.
The Knights became the first SOU opponent to score four goals since 2015.
