Bruce scores 3 goals in 5 minutes as SOU routs Wolves

ASHLAND – The frame of the goal stopped Southern Oregon early but Walla Walla (Wash.) could not thereafter as the Raiders raced to a 10-1 Cascade Conference win on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium.

The Raiders hit the crossbar three times and the post once in the opening seven minutes before Izaiha Bruce opened the floodgates in the 13th. That's when the senior from Brookings scored his first goal, and over the next five minutes he'd score two more and Junior Rivas and Zak Woolley would join him to make it 5-0 in an ambush.

SOU went to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the Cascade Conference with a 1 p.m. match against Carroll (Mont.) on tap Saturday.

Bruce's hat trick was the 10th in Raider history, and the final goal tally tied the second-highest ever for any SOU team. Evan Norconk added two second half goals, Sam Walker had a goal and an assist, and Antonio Jiminez and Adrian Villegas both tallied by the end of the day too.

Joao de Santos contributed a pair of assists. Kaden Barker and Albert Barillas were credited with once apiece.

In six all-time meetings with the Wolves (0-8-1, 0-7), the Raiders have outscored them 55-3.

WWU avoided the shutout, however, thanks to William Frohne's goal in the 73rd minute.

And despite giving up 10 goals, Diego Monlina made 16 impressive saves and had to face 50 shots on the day. Conversely, Frohne's shot was the only one SOU keeper Anthony Armenta saw.

De Santos' two assists got him to the 10-point mark, making him the second Raider to do so after Alan Gaytan. He leads the team with four assists.
