Bulldogs handle Raiders in Dillon

DILLON, Mont. – Montana Western quarterback Jon Jund had his way with Southern Oregon again Saturday, and the UMW defense matched him in a 38-7 Frontier Conference win at Vigilante Field.

The No. 24-ranked Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 4-2 FC) denied the Raiders (3-3, 3-3) their second straight top-25 victory by scoring the last 38 points of the afternoon unanswered, holding SOU to 287 yards of offense and coming up with the game's only two takeaways.

Jund – who accounted for seven total touchdowns when SOU came to UMW two years ago – finished 16-of-28 passing with 164 yards and two touchdown passes to Nate Simkins, but also took off 16 times for a game-high 101 rushing yards and a score. Three different Bulldogs had rushing TDs and they combined for 192 yards on the ground compared to SOU's 55.

The Raiders went 75 yards on their first possession, which concluded on quarterback Matt Struck's nine-yard rush into the end zone. But they came up empty on their next 13 drives and converted just 2-of-16 third-down tries.

Bryce Goggin provided a bright spot with 99 yards on five receptions, missing his fourth straight 100-yard game by a hair. Christian Graney caught four passes for 48 yards.

Defensively, Stokes Botelho and Bryce Kasch led the Raiders with nine tackles apiece. Botelho had two for losses, Kasch was credited with a sack, and Alejandro Sanchez had 1 ½ sacks – bringing his season total to 7 ½.

The Bulldogs remained one game behind first-place Rocky Mountain (Mont.).

Following next week's conference-wide bye, the Raiders will host Montana Tech on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
