FOREST GROVE –
Carolina Johnson captured the 116-pound title and four other Southern Oregon University women's wrestlers made their way to bracket finals Sunday at Pacific's Mike Clock Open.
Johnson, a junior ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, won the 116 championship by forfeit against her teammate,
Tara Othman. Othman,
Carolina Moreno (123 pounds),
Sophie Keefer (130) and
Sienna Ramirez (155) were all second-place finishers.
Six more Raiders placed third:
Karly Scott (101),
Emma Baertlein (109),
Jordynn Robson (130),
Emily Se (136),
Ramona Jimenez (143) and
Karrah Smith (191).
Othman went unbeaten in her four contests with a pin and three technical falls, while Johnson went 3-0 before the forfeit with technical falls in the quarterfinals and semis that were preceded by a decision.
At 123, Moreno posted two pins and a decision before losing 6-1 in the final to Simon Fraser's Karla Godinez-Gonzalez. At 130, Keefer won her first three matches consecutively by fall and was pinned by Empire Wrestling Club's Alice Rickett in the final. And at 155, Ramirez also recorded three pins in a row before taking her first loss of the season, 6-0 to Simon Fraser's Alyvia Fiske.
Among SOU's third-place finishers, Jimenez went 5-1 with two pins and two tech falls. Baertlein, Robson and Se each won four of five matches, Scott went 3-1, and Smith was 3-2.
The Raiders will be at the Missouri Valley Open next Friday and Saturday in Marshall, Mo.
