LA GRANDE – Five Raiders went home with titles and six more placed second as the Southern Oregon University women's wrestling team cleaned up Sunday in Eastern Oregon's Mountaineer Open at Quinn Coliseum.

Karly Scott (101 pounds), Emma Baertlein (109), Tara Othman (116), Carolina Moreno (123) and Sienna Ramirez (155) gave third-ranked SOU half of the entire share of champions at the tournament, which also included competitors from Big Bend C.C., Corban, EOU and Grays Harbor C.C.

Nearly half of the Raiders' 23 representatives advanced to championship matches. Their runners-up were Valeree Ornelas (109), Carolina Johnson (116), Kaiani Kenney (123), Jordynn Robson (130), Desinee Lopez (136) and Karrah Smith (235).

Scott went 3-0 in the 101-pound round robin, earning two wins by technical fall and one by decision. Baertlein also competed in a round robin at 109 and was dominant in four-match run capped by a pin after three straight technical falls.

At 116, Othman followed technical falls in the quarterfinals and semis with a 5-2 decision in the first-place match against her teammate, Johnson. Moreno had to go through a teammate in the 123-pound final, too, and scored her fourth consecutive 10-0 win by technical fall against Kenney.

Ramirez, the top-ranked 155-pounder in the NAIA, enjoyed a sharp 5-0 day that included two pins in under a minute and two technical falls. In her only win by decision, she defeated fifth-ranked Dempsi Talkington of EOU for the second time in 24 hours, 5-1.

SOU's third-place finishers were Esthela Trevino (109), Mimi Hoang (123) and Ramona Jimenez. The Raiders had seven more place fourth, fifth or sixth.

They'll be back in action Thursday at Bob Riehm Arena, taking on Cascade Conference rival Menlo (Calif.) in a dual match.
