SOU sputters late in 76-71 loss to Beacons

ASHLAND – Jarrett Bryant capped a big second half by hitting the go-ahead 3-pointer with 49 seconds left as Bushnell rallied for a 76-71 win against Southern Oregon in a Cascade Conference matchup Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Bryant and fellow reserve Luke Smith combined for 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting after halftime, helping Bushnell (4-7 overall, 2-2 CCC) overcome a 12-point deficit. Kaden Sand led five Beacons in double figures with 17 points, Bryant finished with 15 and Stevie Schlabach contributed 14.

The Raiders (4-8, 1-3) were up 61-51 with 9:30 left following Tez Allen's tip-in but were limited to two field goals the rest of the way. The second was Mason Whittaker's drive for a layup that put them ahead 71-70 with 1:45 to go, and they regained possession with the lead before a turnover led to Bryant's 3-point dagger from the corner.

The Raiders went on to miss three potential game-tying shots.

Josh Meyer recorded his fourth double-double in the loss with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Atmar Mundu enjoyed his best outing as a Raider with 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including three triples, and Joe Juhala was also perfect on five attempts for 15 more points.

Allen had nine points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Raiders shot 44 percent from the field, but went 8-of-26 in the second half after hitting at a 57-percent clip in the first.

They'll attempt to rebound at 5 p.m. Saturday against Corban.
