ASHLAND –
Atmar Mundu provided a much-needed spark for Southern Oregon, starring in a 75-69 win over Corban on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion as the Raiders salvaged a Cascade Conference weekend split.
Mundu, a junior guard in his first season at SOU, tallied 23 points, six rebounds and four assists in his first start. A night after earning it by scoring 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting as the Raiders lost a late lead to Bushnell, he went 8-of-11 overall and helped them close with 11 points over the final eight minutes.
Josh Meyer shot 8-of-14 in his second straight 20-point performance, adding eight rebounds and three steals. His frontcourt mate,
Joe Juhala, had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Mundu and
Tez Allen – who came through with six points, eight assists and seven rebounds – directed an offense that produced a season-best 58.3 field-goal percentage. SOU hadn't done better than 46 percent in any of its previous eight outings.
The Raiders bumped their record to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the CCC. The Warriors dipped to 6-7 and 1-4.
Corban leading scorer Jordan Newt had 17 points and five steals but was limited to 4-of-16 shooting. He scored seven straight to close an 11-point gap to 58-54 with five minutes left before Mundu responded with a 3-pointer and an assist to
Josh Meyer on successive possessions.
Allen had four assists in the final seven minutes. With the Raiders on defense and up at the two-minute mark, he came up with a steal, dished to Mundu and got it back for a dunk in transition. On the Raiders' next possession, Meyer sealed the outcome by nailing a contested 27-footer as the shot-clock buzzer sounded.
K'wan Carter contributed nine points on 4-of-4 shooting off the bench. He helped the Raiders to a 46-30 edge in points in the paint. They attempted just 12 3-pointers, establishing a new season-low for the second night in a row.
Darius Henderson scored 16 for the Warriors. He made all five of his baskets in the first half, but Corban still went into the break trailing 37-29 as SOU ended the period on a 9-2 run.
The Raiders are off until Dec. 31, when they're scheduled to play their first CCC road game at Evergreen (Wash.).
