TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
GREAT FALLS, Mont. –
Max Miller won the 165-pound bracket to headline the Southern Oregon men's wrestling team's efforts Saturday at the Battle of the Rockies tournament.
Miller, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, needed two wins for the title and got both by decision – 13-8 over Montana State-Northern's Devin Crawford and 11-4 over Eastern Oregon's John Bittinger.
Second-place
Lorenzo Vasquez and third-place
Pudge Monroy also impressed for the Raiders.
Vasquez reached the 125 title match with an 8-1 decision over Simpson (Calif.)'s Nicholas Stringer and a 7-2 decision over Eastern Oregon's Adrian Guevara. He was stopped short of a title by Beaver Dam RTC's Caleb Coyle, 9-2.
Monroy was SOU's top scorer at 157. After dropping his first match by sudden victory to Simpson's Tyler Diaz, he won four in a row – three by fall, another by injury default. He pinned MSU-Northern's Connor Harris in 3:45 in the third-place match.
