Sandoval joins exclusive NAIA 100-win club in SOU sweep

BELLEVUE, Wash.Gabby Sandoval's company in the record books keeps getting more exclusive. On Sunday, by winning her 24th consecutive decision, the Southern Oregon superstar became the ninth pitcher in NAIA history to join the 100-win club.

Sandoval's latest milestone achievement coincided with another sweep for the top-ranked Raiders, who defeated Northwest (Wash.) 5-1 and 12-4 to take fatten their records to 19-1 and their winning streak to 13 games. It also came on the same day that Allie Stines broke the Cascade Conference career doubles record, upping her total to 54 with five in the series.

Northwest (0-12) made Sandoval and the Raiders sweat out Game 1, which marked the completion of the CCC portion of the four-game series. Sammi Caron's sacrifice fly after Jordan Dippel's leadoff triple gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and pitcher Sydney Maurer made it stand until the sixth.

There, with two outs in the top half, Avery Morehead-Hutsell rewarded Sandoval with an RBI single, Stines gave her a lead with an RBI double, and Hannah Shimek's triple promptly put the Raiders up 3-1. Rylan Austin started the rally, and she and Riley Donovan set the stage for two more runs with hits in the seventh.

Sandoval marked the occasion with a season-high 10 strikeouts, reaching double figures for the fourth time in her career. Her record went to 10-0 on the season and 100-17 since debuting for the Raiders in 2017, and her ERA sunk to 1.20. The complete game was her 85th.

Sandoval needs just six more wins to break into the top-five on the NAIA's all-time list.

The Raiders are 6-0 in CCC play going into Thursday and Friday's home-opening series against Warner Pacific.

They won the non-conference series finale behind pitcher Hannah Stark, who improved to 3-0 by allowing one earned run over the first four innings.

The top of the order provided the offense. Stines hit two more doubles – while also extending her hitting streak to 18 games – Shimek had two hits and three runs, and Lauren Quirke went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
