KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest (Wash.) women's soccer team ambushed Southern Oregon with three goals in the opening 27 minutes and started Cascade Conference play with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon at NU Athletic Field.
The game was SOU's first since Nov. 23, 2019, and the third of the season for the Eagles (1-2). The teams will match up again at 1 p.m. Monday.
Northwest sophomore Callie Wright, last season's CCC Newcomer of the Year, found the net first less than four minutes into the game. Sarah Hommas assisted her, and then Wright assisted freshman Anna Lau's goal in the 27th minute. Forty-six seconds later, Lau struck again for the final score.
Seven of Northwest's 11 shots went on goal, including six of seven in the opening half.
Natalie Paul, a junior playing her first game for the Raiders, accounted for their only shot on goal.
Sarah Mauk led the Raiders with two shots. Eagles keeper Kierstin Patefield was credited with the shutout.
