KLAMATH FALLS –
Josh Meyer and
Jake Virga combined for 52 points but the Southern Oregon men's basketball team wore down and fell 105-99 in overtime against Oregon Tech on Saturday at Danny Miles Court.
Meyer, a junior forward, turned in his second straight double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 13-of-20 from the field. Virga, a junior guard, hit his first four 3-point tries and finished with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Together they helped the Raiders lead by as many as 15 and erase deficits on three straight possessions in the final two minutes of regulation, but the defense couldn't hold.
Oregon Tech made six consecutive 3-point attempts to take its first lead with 2:26 left in the second half, then hit its first two tries in overtime – including one banked in from the wing by Keegan Shivers that capped a 10-0 run to start the extra session.
Shivers finished with 26 points on a 6-of-8 showing downtown. Kameron Osborn scored 24 and shot 4-of-7 from 3 for the Owls. Before their 8-of-9 stretch from 3, they'd clanked 17 of their first 20 attempts beyond the arc.
SOU got 34 points from its bench. In his second collegiate outing,
Elijah Jackson scored 17 of those.
Hunter Bradford nailed three 3-points to score nine, and
Brad Allen had eight.
As a team, the Raiders connected on 54 percent of their attempts (38-of-71).
They'll play their next eight Cascade Conference games at home, starting with Multnomah next Friday and Saturday. Fan attendance will not be permitted.
