ASHLAND – Southern Oregon turned its four-point halftime edge against Multnomah into a 42-point lead and eventually a 93-62 win, its first of the Cascade Conference spring season Friday afternoon at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Up 45-40,
Tez Allen's 3-pointer with 16:33 left to play was the start of a 37-2 run for the Raiders that spanned the next 10 minutes. They shot 59 percent in the half (23-of-39) and Allen turned in his first double-double of the season with 17 points on 7-of-11 from the field, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Brad Allen connected on all four of his 3-point tries in the second half to add 17 off the bench, and
Elijah Jackson and
Josh Meyer contributed 14 points and six rebounds apiece. Meyer also had four assists.
Leaving behind a sloppy opening period in which they went 4-of-16 from 3 and 6-of-13 at the free-throw line, the Raiders improved to 1-2. Multnomah stayed winless in the CCC at 0-5.
Junior point guard
Jake Virga pushed SOU along in the first, where he scored all 11 of his points to go along with his four assists.
Four quick points before halftime put the Raiders in front 38-34 at the break, and they held the Lions to 8-of-36 shooting the rest of the way.
Mason Whittaker added two blocks and six assists for the Raiders, who recorded assists on 26 of their 37 buckets overall.
Forrest Smith and Andrew Classen scored 12 apiece to lead Multnomah.
The teams will meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday.
