ASHLAND –
Gabby Sandoval broke into the top-5 on the NAIA all-time wins list and
Lauren Quirke stroked two more home runs as Southern Oregon rolled through another sweep of Providence (Mont.), 8-0 and 12-0 Saturday afternoon at University Field.
The top-ranked Raiders (30-2 overall, 14-1 Cascade Conference) outscored the Argos (2-18, 2-13) 47-1 in the series, finishing off all four games with the eight-run mercy rule in five innings. They hit the 30-win mark in three fewer games than any other team in program history.
Sandoval's climb up the national record book took her to 16-0 on the season, 106-17 in her career, and gave her 30 consecutive wins without a loss dating back to 2019. Her second shutout in as many days was a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Riley Donovan tied Quirke for the team lead in home runs with her fifth in Game 1, a line drive to left field that served as the exclamation point in a five-run fourth inning.
They didn't stay tied for long. Quirke became the first Raider with a multi-homer game since 2019 in the series finale, hitting her third and fourth bombs of the weekend – a two-run shot in the first and a solo homer in the third – to give her seven this year.
Donovan ended the afternoon 5-for-6 with a double, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Hannah Shimek (double, 4 runs, 2 RBIs) and
Tayler Walker (2 doubles) had four hits apiece, and
Allie Stines knocked her NAIA-leading 21st double.
Hannah Stark and
Rylan Austin combined for the Game 2 shutout. Stark earned the win, improving to 4-0, by getting through the first three innings, and Austin took the last two. Both allowed just one hit during their stints.
Peyton Elliot and McKenzie Staats accounted for Providence's four hits on the day with two apiece.
The Raiders will be back on the road next Friday and Saturday with a four-game series at Eastern Oregon.
