ASHLAND – A lazy Sunday afternoon is not in the cards for the Southern Oregon University softball team if it is to win a fourth consecutive Cascade Conference Tournament trophy.

On Day 2 of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank, 17th-ranked Oregon Tech knocked off the Raiders 5-0 Saturday at University Field as Sarah Abramson became the first pitcher to shut them out this season.

OIT (41-8), the No. 3 seed in the tourney, stayed unbeaten in the double-elimination bracket and advanced to Sunday's 1:30 p.m. title round.

The No.1-ranked Raiders (46-4) need three straight victories to win the championship. They'll start with an elimination game against No. 2 seed College of Idaho at 11 a.m. After that, they'd have to beat the Owls twice.

They'd won 10 consecutive CCC Tournament contests before Saturday's loss, which was also snapped a 45-game home winning streak dating back to 2019.

Abramson scattered six hits, struck out three and didn't issue a walk in the performance. It brought her record to 22-5 a day after she no-hit Warner Pacific and earned the decision in a win against College of Idaho.

She entered the driver's seat when the Owls rallied for all five of their runs on five hits in a row during the third inning. With the bases loaded, Kennedi Jantzi drove in the first two with a single. The next batter, Maggie Buckholz, drove a three-run home run that cleared the fence by inches in right field.

SOU pitcher Gabby Sandoval exited with 2 1/3 innings on her line, marking her briefest start of the year. She fell to 26-2.

Lauren Quirke and Avery Morehead-Hutsell both produced two hits and a double apiece for the Raiders. Quirke also got through the final 3 2/3 innings in relief without allowing a run.
