Allen, Meyer carry Raiders to 63-59 win over Northwest

ASHLAND Tez Allen's big night gave the Southern Oregon men's basketball team just enough to score a key Cascade Conference win over Northwest (Wash.) on Friday night, 63-59 at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Allen, a junior guard, turned in his second straight double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Raiders (12-10 overall, 9-5 CCC) hung on after leading for all but 33 seconds.

The Eagles (9-10, 6-8) had one last chance to erase the deficit after Atmar Mundu split a pair of free throws to push SOU's edge to two with 18 seconds remaining. Out of a timeout, CaCoa Chatman – who kept the Eagles in the game with 25 points on 10-of-15 accuracy – tried to find Tanner Davis at the rim with a lob, but his errant pass was deflected and wound up in the hands of Josh Meyer.

Meyer passed up the floor to Mason Whittaker, who flipped to K'wan Carter for an emphatic dunk that sealed the outcome with a second left on the clock.

Meyer came through for the Raiders on several occasions with 11 second-half points. The junior forward finished with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and nine rebounds against his former team. With 4:42 to play, Whittaker hit him for an open 3-pointer that brought the Raiders' lead to 56-50. With three minutes left, Whittaker dumped off a pass to him inside for a layup that put them up seven.

Whittaker totaled seven assists for the Raiders, who compiled 20 of them on 26 field goals.

Atmar Mundu hit double figures for the eighth time in nine games with 15 points and four assists.

Outside of Chatman, the rest of the Eagles combined to shoot just 30 percent. Davis chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Each of the teams' last five matchups have been decided by four or fewer points.

The Raiders' win helped them jump in the standings over Corban and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), which both lost on the road Friday.

SOU will be home again at 5 p.m. Saturday against Evergreen (Wash.).
