ATHERTON, Calif. – The No. 6-ranked Menlo (Calif.) women's wrestling team claimed six of the first seven weight classes to race to a 25-15 dual win over No. 3 Southern Oregon on Friday night at Haynes Prim Pavilion.
Carolina Moreno (123 pounds),
Bailey Dennis (170) and
Karrah Smith (191) each won by decision for the Raiders. Top-ranked
Sienna Ramirez (155) accepted a forfeit victory.
Four individuals scored bonus points for the Oaks: Tianna Fernandez (101) by forfeit, Cindy Zepeda (130) by fall, and Alleida Martinez (116) and Louis Schwab (136) by technical fall.
Moreno, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA at 123 pounds, won the match of the night on paper. She scored a convincing 10-2 decision over Alana Vivas, who entered the contest with a No. 4 ranking.
Smith also defended her No. 4 ranking against No. 7 Emily Sandoval at 191 with a 4-0 victory. Dennis's victory was also a shutout, 9-0 against Nikita Dahliwal.
The Raiders and Oaks split their two matchups this season.
SOU will be home for the last time next week, working on a 7-2 dual record Friday against Corban and Saturday against Eastern Oregon.
