Charley-Bolyard puts Raiders past Rocky, 1-0

ASHLAND Sky Charley-Bolyard and the Southern Oregon men's soccer team had the final say on a testy and wild afternoon with Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Saturday at Raider Stadium.

Charley-Bolyard deposited the lone goal in the 81st minute for a 1-0 win, the Raiders' third straight after a slow start. The sophomore defender struck right in front of the net at the end of a frenzied sequence that began with Adrian Villegas' corner kick, making SOU 6-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Villegas' corner went to the top of the box to Izaiha Bruce, who sent forward a header that was gathered by a sliding Evan Norconk in a crowd. Charley-Bolyard took the ball right off Norconk's feet and directed it in for his first goal in 25 career appearances.

The Battlin' Bears were shut out for the second day in a row. They fell to 5-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the CCC.

A six-point weekend put the Raiders in fourth place on the CCC table heading into road contests next week at Carroll (Mont.) and Walla Walla (Wash.).

The game featured 12 yellow cards and several missed opportunities as the teams combined for 29 shots.

Freshman keeper Casey Ruvolo preserved SOU's clean sheet with four saves, the last on a dive to deny Quique Garcia's header with less than two minutes remaining. Prior to that, with the game still tied in the 76th minute, defender Omar Ramirez came through when Ruvolo was drawn out to head away with his feet planted at the goal line Niklas Kneller's close-up attempt.

The back line helped SOU survive nine Rocky corner kicks.

The Raiders had their share of missed chances, too. Noah Addie created a pair of golden opportunities, Alan Gaytan had five shots, and six different Raiders put shots on goal.

Bruce and Norconk were both credited with assists on Charley-Bolyard's score – Norconk after tallying two goals and Bruce after recording a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-0 win against Providence.

The Raiders have come out on top in their last three meetings with the Bears.
