ASHLAND – Southern Oregon sustained its dominance of Eastern Oregon in flashy fashion during a 4-0 Cascade Conference blowout on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium.
Alan Gaytan became the second Raider ever to compile two goals and two assists in the same game, putting his stamp all over the Raiders' sixth consecutive victory as they improved to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCC.
In seven all-time regular-season matchups, SOU has still never allowed a goal against EOU (6-6-1, 3-5). The Mountaineers mustered just two shots on target.
Adrian Villegas also shined, scoring the first goal of the game in the 26th minute when Gaytan passed his way on an advantage. He also had the play of the game without getting credit for a point in the 43rd minute – faking a shot when
Izaiha Bruce crossed his way and instead letting the ball roll to Gaytan, who capitalized from close in.
Gaytan opened up the lead by converting a penalty kick in the 58th minute.
Kevin Nevinger provided the finishing touches in the 73rd when Gaytan found him on another advantage.
Gaytan has scored two goals in consecutive games for the first time in his career, bringing his SOU-record total to 25. He has six along with three assists this season.
Villegas tallied for the third outing in a row and fourth time in six games. He's up to five goals in 2022 and is one away from the 20th of his career.
Anthony Armenta collected two saves to bank his third straight shutout. The Raiders haven't given up a goal in the last 530 minutes during their streak. They've scored 21 unanswered.
They're back at home Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. matchup against College of Idaho, which will enter at 5-3 in conference play after losing 3-2 on Friday at Oregon Tech.
