REDDING, Calif. – The Southern Oregon University men's wrestling team is off to a 4-0 start for the first time in 10 years after rolling Simpson (Calif.) 41-6 in dual action Saturday afternoon at the Grant Center.
The Raiders took six of eight contested weight classes, including four with bonus points, and accepted two forfeits from the Redhawks (0-1).
Freshman 125-pounder
Mitch Warren marked his SOU debut with a pin of Nicholas Stringer in the first match.
Dylan Straley (157) and
Kabb Christensen (184) later added two more wins by fall over Manuel Lopez and Malachi Caldwell.
Alex Hernandez added an 18-2 technical fall against Bryant Franklin at 174.
Derek Ramos won by 6-0 decision against Elian Murrillo at 141, and
Antonio Garcia defeated Jacob Vincent 3-2 at 285.
Hernandez ran his record to 8-1, Christensen went to 7-1, and Garcia to 6-2. Each remained perfect in dual matches.
Tomas Jacobo (149) and Tyler Diaz (165) accounted for Simpson's wins.
The Raiders are in action next at Linfield on Dec. 11. After that, they'll return home to face No. 19-ranked Montana State-Northern on Dec. 14.
