SOU falls in overtime at Corban, 87-80

SALEM – Guards Kendall Moore and Jordan Newt took over in overtime, scoring all 15 points in the extra period for Corban as it prevailed 87-80 over Southern Oregon in a Cascade Conference battle Friday night at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Newt finished with 22 points and three steals and Moore had 16 points and five steals for the Warriors (15-10 overall, 10-7 CCC), who crept within a half-game of the third-place Raiders (13-11, 10-6) in the standings.

SOU trailed 68-62 with five minutes left in regulation before flipping the lead with a 10-2 run, which was capped by K'wan Carter's putback at the rim with 28 seconds left. On the other end, the Raiders forced an errant mid-range jumper by Taylor Anderson but Psalm Maduakor flew in for the rebound and drew a foul in the process. He was awarded two free throws with 12 seconds left and sunk them both to tie the game.

The Raiders missed a couple chances before the buzzer, and Moore scored the first six points for the Warriors in overtime. Up 78-76, Newt got to the hoop for a layup and on the Warriors' next possession dribbled into a 3-pointer that extended their lead to seven with 1:20 to play.

The loss spoiled a big night for Carter, who scored a season-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting and had four rebounds.

Three more Raiders scored in double figures: Josh Meyer (12 points, 15 rebounds), who recorded his eighth double-double, Mason Whittaker (14 points, 2 steals), and Atmar Mundu (13 points, 3 assists). Tez Allen flirted with a triple-double with nine points, eight assists and eight board but fouled out with 1:50 left in regulation. Joe Juhala scored eight points and had a couple key three-point plays in the second half.

SOU split the season series with the Warriors, having defeated them 75-69 on Dec. 18 in Ashland.

The Raiders will be back in action at 5 p.m. Saturday at Bushnell.
