ASHLAND – Southern Oregon track and field thrower Molly Guerra and softball player Cayla Williams have received Cascade Conference WVT Laboratory Athlete of the Week recognition, the league office announced Monday.

Guerra, the CCC Field Athlete of the Week, posted a discus throw of 151 feet 7 inches on Saturday at the Humboldt Invitational. The mark made her an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor Championships, landed her at No. 2 on the national performance list, and was the second-best in SOU history – just two inches short of the school record Nicole Robertson established in 2000. The junior from Grants Pass won the nine-person event and placed second in the hammer, behind teammate KiAshe Hobby, with a mark of 146-6.

Williams collected CCC Softball Player of the Week honors after helping the No. 8-ranked Raiders go 7-1 during a six-day stretch. The junior right-hander from San Jose, Calif., went 14-for-24 with three home runs, two doubles, 12 RBIs and six runs scored over the eight games, reaching base at a .655 clip. In the circle, she logged a 1.15 ERA over 24 1/3 innings and went 2-1 with two saves, including one to knock off top-ranked Oregon Tech. In two complete games, she didn't allow an earned run.

Williams currently leads the Raiders in batting average (.477) and ERA (1.28). Her pitching record stands at 8-1.
