Raiders go down at Northwest in CCC opener

KIRKLAND, Wash. – More tough luck doomed the Southern Oregon men's soccer team as it opened Cascade Conference play with a 1-0 loss to Northwest (Wash.) on Friday afternoon at NU Athletic Field.

The Raiders (3-3 overall) got off 19 shots but failed to finish. They put seven on target – matching the team's highest shots-on-goal total ever in a shutout that was established 11 days ago.

The Eagles (3-2-1) put only three on goal but Tyler Hopp connected 21 minutes into the contest, taking a deep pass from Daniel Stanczak and placing it in the upper left pocked of the goal.

NU's Alexander Thiehofe got the hard-earned shutout with seven saves. He stopped all-conference forward Alan Gaytan on two occasions.

The win was the Eagles' first against SOU since 2015, the Raiders' inaugural season. They'd since lost six consecutive matchups by an aggregate score of 16-2.

The Raiders will try to bounce back at 3 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen (Wash.). They haven't dropped back-to-back conference games in seven years.
