ASHLAND – The No. 6-ranked Corban volleyball team needed a couple sets to hit its stride but finished strong in a 26-28, 25-23, 25-12, 25-12 defeat of No. 17 Southern Oregon in Cascade Conference play Saturday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The Raiders (11-3 overall, 5-2 CCC) outlasted the Warriors (13-2, 6-1) in the first set and led 23-20 in the next before momentum changed sides. Corban finished the second with five unanswered points – getting kills from four different individuals during the run – and dominated the next two, combining for 25 kills and just six attacking errors in the frames.
The Warriors took sole possession of second place with the win. Their only CCC loss was to No. 2-ranked Eastern Oregon, and SOU was the fourth nationally-ranked team they've defeated.

Carol Melo shined early, banking all 10 of her blocks in the first two sets.
Hailey Van Well led the team with 11 kills, and
Katie Vroman had eight while starting for injured outside hitter
Mylena Testoni.
Makalya Roginski recorded a match-high 17 kills on 27 swings for the Warriors. Rylee Troutman had 15 and Avari Ridgway added 10.
Corban limited the Raiders to an attacking average of .086, their lowest of the season.
SOU hits the road next week, visiting EOU on Friday and College of Idaho on Saturday.
