OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team ended its scoreless drought and earned a split of its Cascade Conference-opening road trip, topping Evergreen (Wash.) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch.
Malaika Quigley's first goal, assisted by
Phoebe Bunn, put the Raiders (2-4-1 overall, 1-1 CCC) in front four minutes before halftime. In the 59th minute,
Baylee Touey set up
Sarah Mauk's second goal of the season to double their lead.
Before those strikes, the Raiders had gone 319 minutes since their last goal. They snapped a four-match winless streak.
They got just enough to beat the Geoducks (0-4-1, 0-2), who answered courtesy of Brie Dell shortly after. But after her goal, Evergreen didn't get a shot the rest of the way and was held to three total in the match.
Ashlynn Hernandez picked up the keeper victory, collecting two saves.
SOU generated season-highs of 21 shots, 12 on goal and eight corners. Three of Touey's four shots were on target.
The Raiders – who have been on the road for the duration of the season to this point – will play one more away game, next Friday at Oregon Tech, before finally debuting in Ashland on Sept. 30 and 31.
