ASHLAND – After going through an attacking drought that belied the peripheral numbers, goals are suddenly coming in bunches for the Southern Oregon men's soccer team.
The Raiders poured it on during a 5-0 thumping of Providence (Mont.) on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium, as
Evan Norconk delivered a brace and
Izaiha Bruce and
Sam Walker had a goal and an assist apiece.
They've won back-to-back games for the first time this season, improving to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Cascade Conference. Providence fell to 0-4-1- and 0-3-1.
Norconk scored the first two goals – his third and fourth of the season – in the fifth and 47th minutes, first heading in
Tybalt Thornberry's cross and later punching in an assist from Walker.
Walker struck for his team-leading sixth goal in the 56th, punching in a rebound after Bruce took a long shot that required UP keeper Sam Fingers to make a diving save.
Kevin Nevinger tacked on slickly in the 69th via
Omar Ramirez, and Bruce got his goal courtesy of a
Noah Addie assist three minutes later.
Fingers was busy all day, facing 19 shots on goal. The Argos produced one against SOU keeper
Anthony Armenta.
The Raiders have scored eight times in their last two games following consecutive road losses at Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen (Wash.), where they combined for 23 on-target shots but had just one goal to show for them.
Thornberry's assist was his fifth of the season, the second-highest total among all CCC players.
The Raiders are home again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to face Rocky Mountain (Mont.), which will enter with a 3-1 conference record after wearing a 5-0 loss on Friday at Oregon Tech.
